Germantown Programs

Here are some of our GNC Programs

Cheerleading

For children in grades K-5, kids have fun learning cheers and receiving positive mentoring. Offered during the summer.

Dance

Activities for youth in grades 1-8 include street dances, cultural dance, jazz, and the essence of belonging in a dance troupe. This program runs year-round on a seasonal schedule. At the conclusion of the program, students perform for the summer intergenerational program at the senior housing building in Germantown.

Drama

Self-confidence and social skills are developed through performing arts in boys and girls from grades 1-5, and middle schoolers. Offered during the school year.

Girl Power

This program runs as funding becomes available. This program helps empower middle school girls ages 12-16 to become strong and successful young women. The ten-week curriculum includes important topics such as sexual harassment, self-defense, teen dating violence, identifying and building healthy relationships, anger management, and journaling. Field trips and a Career Day are also included.

Mom & Tot Literacy Program

During the school year, once a week in the morning the Mom & Tot Literacy Program provides a craft for mom and child to create together. Guest speakers read a new book to the group. A breakfast buffet is provided. Administered by the South Shore YMCA, this program operates in collaboration with the Quincy Family Network and the GNC.

Intergenerational Reading Program

Throughout the year, senior citizens share their love of books with first and second graders. Each senior is paired with a child to help the young one to expand his or her knowledge of reading.

Tuesday Enrichment Programs

On Tuesdays, through a partnership with Eastern Nazarene College, the GNC offers a variety of courses for children in grades three, four and five. Some of the offerings include an art program, homework assistance and a chorus program.

Women's Night Out

During the school year, a complimentary dinner for mothers and their children begins at 6 pm. Workshops take place from 6:30-7:30 pm, and include such topics as managing stress, effective communication, understanding parenting styles, mutual respect, appropriate disciplinary skills, and skills to improve the quality of your family life. Childcare is provided. A special event kicks off the year’s activities.
